Undergraduate programmes- After completion of at least 120 credits, the diploma or Högskoleexamen is awarded. Master’s programs- Sweden’s higher education system offers two kinds of master’s degree differentiated based on their duration–Magisterexamen and Masterexamen. The duration of Magisterexamen is one year and that of Masterexamen is two years. Besides these, around sixty professional degrees are also available. If you have a residence permit for studies at a university or other higher education institution in Sweden and have completed your studies, you can get a residence permit to seek employment. You may get a residence permit that is valid for up to six months.

If you have not found a job after completing your higher studies in Sweden, you can apply for a residence permit extension for a period not extending twelve months. Non-EU nationals who have been living in Sweden for five years or more are eligible for long-term resident permits. These five years are exclusive of your study years but can be included under certain terms and conditions. This permanent resident permit is valid for as long as you reside in Sweden.
